History

Jamyang Choling Institute (JCI) runs as a nunnery for the benefit of the Tibetan Buddhist. It was founded in 1989 by Venerable Bhikshuni Karma Lekshe Tsomo (an American Buddhist nun). She had a vision of educating Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhist nuns and lay women who would otherwise have little opportunity to receive formal schooling or spiritual education. Readmore...

First Geshe-Ma Degrees in Year 2016

The Geshe degree is the highest level of training in the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. These women pioneers, now Geshe-mas, are among the first nuns to have accomplished this level of scholarship.

Their success fulfils a longstanding wish of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and marks a new chapter in the development of education for ordained Buddhist women and is a major accomplishment for Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhist women.
